A practical safety checklist for house party hosts in India. Covers drink safety, crowd management, noise regulations, emergency planning, and post-party security, everything responsible hosts need to know.
Table of Contents
Throwing a great party means making sure everyone has fun AND gets home safe. As a host, you're responsible for the energy, the environment, and the wellbeing of your guests.
This guide covers everything from basic precautions to handling worst-case scenarios. For a complete before-party checklist, see our house party checklist India.
Before the Party
Know Your Guest Count
Overcrowding is the #1 cause of party problems. A simple rule:
- 1 BHK apartment: 8-12 guests max
- 2 BHK apartment: 15-20 guests
- 3 BHK / independent house: 25-35 guests
- Farmhouse / villa: 40-80 guests (depending on space)
Use Partie's capacity feature to set a hard limit and auto-close RSVPs when full.
Inform Your Neighbours
A quick message or visit goes a long way:
- Tell them the date and approximate end time
- Share your phone number in case of concerns
- Promise to keep noise reasonable after 10 PM
Secure Your Space
- Lock rooms that are off-limits (bedrooms, home office)
- Remove valuables from common areas
- Secure balconies and terraces — especially important if drinking is involved
- Check that exits are clear — no blocked doorways
Building / Society Coordination
- Inform the security guard about expected guests
- Share a guest list if your society requires it
- Know your society's noise and gathering rules
- Book the parking area if available
Drink Safety
The Non-Negotiables
- Always have non-alcoholic options — Water, juice, cola. Not everyone drinks, and that's perfectly fine
- Never pressure anyone to drink
- Watch for signs of overconsumption — Slurring, stumbling, aggression
- Open bottles only — Serve drinks in clear view; never leave open drinks unattended
Drink Spiking Prevention
This is serious and unfortunately happens. As a host:
- Use cups that are distinguishable (different colours or write names on them)
- Keep the drink station in a well-lit, visible area
- If anyone feels suddenly unwell, take it seriously immediately
- Have a trusted friend help monitor the drinks area
Safe Transport Home
- No drunk driving. Period.
- Share Uber/Ola codes or book cabs for guests who've had too much
- Encourage carpooling, designate sober drivers
- Offer your couch/floor for anyone who shouldn't be driving
- Set a "last drink" time, stop serving alcohol 30-60 minutes before the party ends

Crowd Management
- Know who's there — Use Partie's QR check-in so you have an accurate headcount
- No uninvited guests — It's okay to turn people away politely
- Watch for drama — Step in early before arguments escalate
- Have a buddy system — A trusted co-host who can help manage the room
Noise Management
Most Indian cities have noise regulations:
- After 10 PM: Keep music at conversation level
- After 11 PM: Move the party indoors, close windows
- Use bass management — Reduce bass on your speaker; bass travels through walls more than treble
- Time your music — Start loud, progressively lower volume
Fire Safety
- Don't block fire exits
- Keep candles away from curtains and fabrics
- Know where your fire extinguisher is (if you have one)
- No open flames on balconies in apartment buildings
Emergency Preparedness
First Aid Basics
Keep these accessible:
- Bandages and antiseptic
- Paracetamol / pain relievers
- Ice packs
- Your local emergency numbers
Emergency Contacts to Have Ready
- Police: 100
- Ambulance: 102 / 108
- Fire: 101
- Women's Helpline: 181
- Your building security number
- Nearest hospital address
If Something Goes Wrong
- Stay calm. Panicking makes everything worse
- Assess the situation. Is it medical, legal, or interpersonal?
- Call for help if needed. Don't hesitate to call an ambulance
- Clear the space. If there's a medical emergency, give room
- Document if necessary. For insurance or legal purposes
Post-Party Safety
- Check your home — Walk through every room. Make sure no one is passed out in a bathroom or bedroom
- Lock up — Secure all doors and windows
- Check on guests — A quick "did everyone get home safe?" message in the group chat
- Inspect for damage — Check for spills, burns, or broken items
- Dispose of bottles properly — Glass in a separate bag, clearly labelled
